Minutes HTMS PTA General Meeting & Board Meeting Tuesday, January 12th, 2010 6:30 p.m. in HTMS Media Center Present: Heather Sandifer, Traci Collins, Holly Pharis, Debbie Stotser, Melanie Hiott, Mrs. Faust. The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:35 p.m. Secretary’s Report – Minutes from the December meeting were previously sent out and a copy was available for review. No changes were noted. Voting on the minutes was tabled until next meeting Treasurer’s Report – Budget sheet distributed, current through 1/11/10. President’s Report · Library: At this time, the $1000 will be given to “Library” as allocated in the budget. · Fundraising: 1. T-shirts and hoodies have been distributed. Any kinks are being worked out by Traci & Heather. 2. The Husky Run Fundraiser has been tabled for now, due to the general economy and lack of current fundraising chairperson. 3. The Dodgeball tournament is still being planned for later this year. · Membership: All board members must join the PTA. Forms are available at this meeting or on the web-site and can be turned in to Heather, Traci or Martha, or dropped in the PTA box. · Volunteers : Volunteers continue to be needed for Friday Freeze and other events. Contact Heather, Traci or Vicki Burns if you would like to volunteer. · Hospitality (Melanie Hiott): Besides monthly goodies in the teacher’s lounge, next event will be selling refreshments at the Spring Dance. · PAWS: If you know of any volunteer opportunities for kids in this age-group, please forward to Stephanie. · Programs: There is a group coming to Trussville through 1st Baptist Church. They use weight lifting, body building, etc, to highlight good character/self-esteem. They will be here from Feb 17th-24th (Wed. – Wed.). Traci has contacted Lance, who is in charge of the group. No response yet, but she will continue to pursue, and will work with Mrs. Faust to determine a date for the program to be presented at HTMS. [Feb. 17th is not an option because it is the date of the ADAW (AL Direct Writing Assessment.)] [Also, if considering Feb 19th, make sure it is not a Friday Freeze date. The students are currently having “Freeze & Read” on the Fridays of Friday Freeze.] · Reflections: Denise asked Debbie S. to report on Reflections – Winners have been selected and Denise will get names to Mrs. Faust to announce over loud-speaker. The items will be mailed to AL PTA offices by the next few days. Denise would like permission to purchase a gift card for the judge in the amount of $25.00. This is available in the Reflections budget. Fifty dollar cash prizes for the 1st place student(s) in each category will also be given. New Business/Questions/Comments Mrs. Faust would like to request assistance from the PTA with either providing or securing donations for gift cards. These will be used in drawings for the teachers during the next “Staff Culture and Climate” team event (Chocolicious) on February 12th. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:10 p.m. Next meeting will be Feb 2nd at 8: 30 a.m. Dr Freeman will be present to speak about ad valorem tax |
